RunKeeper Day 1

Had a great run with RunKeeper.  None of the technical glitches I had been suffering for the last several weeks with miCoach.  Flawless performance the entire run and never had to look at the display to check heart rate once.  Interestingly enough, I am using the miCoach Bluetooth heart rate monitor to pair with RunKeeper.  I am so glad I did not have to run out and get a new HR monitor to trial the new app.

RunKeeper integrates with my new Jawbone UP and all of the data comes together seamlessly on MyFitnessPal and Jawbone UP.  I love easy!

I think it is safe to say that I am officially retiring miCoach.

Jawbone UP Day 1

2013-05-14

Interesting results.  Started the day with a 2.9 mile run and then sat at my desk for the rest of the day.

Sleep:  I slept 4h 49m.  Not good.  Most of that was spent tossing and turning.  Only managed to get 1h 55m of deep sleep!

Diet:  My calorie deficit and steps were both very high early on.  I have it set to post positive and negative results on myfitnesspal.com, so it ate away at my progress throughout the day due to inactivity.  At one point, around 10:00 pm, the 450 calorie surplus from my run had dwindled to 11 calories.  Once it hit my daily BMR the calorie surplus started growing again and managed to get back up to a 294 calories.  Not bad considering I ate a nice Rib Eye lunch and Pad Thai dinner.  Actual calorie intake was 160 over, that with the 294 calorie surplus put me right at the 450 calories I had burned on my run.

Activity:  By 6:30 am I had put in 5,634 steps.  At midnight when I quit my analysis I had put in 7,678 steps.  I was twice as active in the first 1.5 hours of my day than I was for the 17.5 hours.  Wow!

The end result is that my diet is strong, but I sit way too much and don’t get nearly enough sleep.  I can’t wait to see long term results and trends as I address these shortcomings.  Tomorrow, I get to figure out how to make all of this mesh with RunKeeper…

Jawbone UP
On a brighter note… trying out the Jawbone UP activity tracker.  So far so good.  Mostly just makes you aware of butt time.  Nice!

BF 6.10 (sub)

Aliso Summit Trail. 6.2 miles yesterday and 4.6 miles today. Still beat my fastest trail run by 1.5 minutes. So sweaty… so GOOD! Skipped sprints for trail run again. Again, excellent choice.

BF 6.9

Mentally off today, but determined. 5 mile run around Sulphur Creek Reservoir. Got lost and out of the groove. Did a lot of sight seeing, but maintained a steady slow pace for remainder of run and added a mile of street at the end to make up for the slow pace. At least it was a pretty day!

BF 6.6 (sub)

Free running. Scheduled for sprints today, but strained back mid-run yesterday and didn’t want to push my luck.  That and I really wanted to do a long run today.  Did a leisurely 5.4 miles just to get out and run combo trail/street.  Beautiful day, just soaking it up.

Lot of work and heart rate was all over the place at the end.  Looking forward to a day off!

Stopped about 2.5 miles into a trail run today to take a photo of a chalk drawing someone made to mark their accomplishment.  Standing still, I got a back spasm that has stayed with me the rest of the day.  Had the option of walking back, but what fun would that have been?  If I had chalk with me I would have made one of these for myself at the other end.
I have sprints tomorrow so I hope this doesn’t hold me back…

BF 6.4

Skipped workout.  Dropped out about .5 miles in to re-do assessment workout.  Ran too hard and system could not record because there was no steady increase in heart rate, so run was not recorded.

Super short run and still felt really sore.  Need to rest up for long run on Saturday anyway.
